Near Caching with the .NET Client
|
Tip
|
The source code for this tutorial is available on GitHub. |
This tutorial demonstrates how near caching improves read performance by keeping frequently accessed entries in client-side memory.
Prerequisites
-
A running Infinispan server.
-
.NET 10 or later.
Running the Example
dotnet run --project near-cache
Code Walkthrough
Enabling Near Caching
Enable near caching on a cache instance with a maximum number of entries. The near cache is automatically invalidated when entries are modified on the server.
var near = client.NewCache(new StringMarshaller(), new StringMarshaller(), "benchmark-near");
await near.EnableNearCache(numEntries);
Benchmarking
The example performs 10,000 random reads on both a regular cache and a near cache, then compares the elapsed time.
Expected Output
Populated 20 entries in both caches.
Remote cache: 10000 reads in 00:00:XX.XXX
Near cache: 10000 reads in 00:00:00.XXX
Near cache is XXx faster.
The near cache reads are significantly faster because they are served from local memory without a network round-trip.
